Virtues Breakthroughs in Family Life

From Virtues Project Facilitators Liu Man San and Doreen Lee Mooi Leng, a couple in Malaysia

"We wish to share with you some inspiring episodes how your Virtues Project has affected our workshop participants."

1. There was this man from a village -- quite hot-tempered -- who related this. When he went home after the first day of a virtues workshop we gave, there was an electrical failure in his house so he started fixing it from 7 at night. When it got to 9 o'clock he lost his patience and "commanded" he wife to bring him a hammer. He was going to hammer his TV, his fuse box, etc. The wife pleaded and then he remembered what was said at the workshop that we have to call on the power of virtues. Immediately he cooled down and continued and at 10.00 o'clock, he fixed the fault and everything was back to normal. He said thank you to The Virtues Project.

2. Another gentleman (a graduate) related this. When he goes home to his village to visit his parents what usually happens is that he always expounded his knowledge to his father. His father only had four years of education. So he would give 20 educated opinions to convince his father how right he was. And his father could only listen to his display of knowledge. During the Virtues Pick activity, with tears in his eyes, (after having picked "Respect"), he said now he knows what to do when he goes back next time. He would listen to his father and respect his opinion. Amazing, isn't it?

3. There was a gentleman who a day earlier had spoken some harsh words to his lady colleague. Having attended the first day of workshop, that night he called up the lady and apologized for his rudeness. The lady was pleasantly surprised (especially when he was known for his harshness) and asked him what had happened. He told her he is attending a Virtues Project workshop. The lady said she must attend this workshop too.

Another episode, this one's quite funny involving an elderly gentleman. After hearing the story Dan told about the leukemia girl that refused treatment and how Dan at the door said, "Your Majesty, may I approach". Remember that one? This man's wife (very fierce) asked him to buy a fish to cook for dinner. When he arrived home his wife asked for the fish. He had forgotten it. So he remembered the story and bowing to his wife he said in his vernacular language, which is quite funny "Oh forgive this servant, your majesty" and to his surprise his wife burst out laughing and asked him where he learned such thing. He told her he just attended a 3 and half hour Virtues Project workshop, his wife asked him to attend more.

Linda and Dan, your Virtues Project is really empowering. Some friends were discussing the workshops we have around. Many of the workshops are very motivating but that's it, where as The Virtues Project is empowering. It stays with the person for the rest of his life. He can always use virtues as a frame of reference and that is empowering."
