Nancy Underdown, principal at Matata Primary School in New Zealand, is offering her school as a model of what Virtues can do. After doing training last March, virtues began to be used across the school. After the first week, Nancy and all her staff were surprised and pleased with how well the new language was working. Nancy supported her teachers' creativity and encouraged them to share what was working and to come up with new ideas. Within 5 weeks bullying had disappeared from the playground and the school's peer mediators took on a new role of looking for virtues on the playground and writing virtues hug notes. One teacher found Radha's "Pass it Round the Circle" song on the 'Virtues in Me' CD inspiring and created a classroom treasure box. Children contributed their own little treasures to the box. When someone- teacher or student- wants to acknowledge a virtue in someone, children are allowed to choose any treasure from the box and keep it with care for the rest of the day. They return the item to the treasure box at the end of the day. Using treasure boxes spread across the school and teachers found that the problem of stealing in classrooms had vanished!
